Executive Director, Florida Consumer Action Network

Our Mission

Founded in December 1984 from a coalition of existing grassroots organizations, Florida Consumer Action Network (FCAN) is a non-profit organization with a history of organizing everyday citizens in support of a Florida that works for everyone.

Political Climate in Florida

For decades, Florida has been one of the most important swing states in the nation.  Because of this, much national attention is paid to Florida politics and it has been at the center of the political dialogue on issues around the economy, jobs, health care, energy and more.  As the FCAN Executive Director, you will be working to strengthen the progressive movement in one of the most important states in national politics and be involved in some of the most critical campaigns in the country.

Our Campaigns

Currently, FCAN members and staff are building power to win victories on these priority campaigns:

  • Build a New Transportation System: We have an opportunity to rethink our public transportation system, and build a new network of light rail, bus service, sidewalks and bike lanes that will take people where they want to go. Doing so will strengthen our communities, improve our quality of life, clean up our air, and grow our economy.
  • Limit Corporate Influence over our Democracy: Our democracy should give each of us a voice. Instead, unlimited campaign spending allows corporations and the richest Americans to rig the system against the average voter. We need to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, get big money out of politics, and register more people to vote.
  • Ensure Quality, Affordable Health Care for Everyone: We believe in a consumer-centered health care system that guarantees coverage and is affordable for everyone. We should expand Medicaid to more low-income Floridians and preserve Medicare and Social Security benefits for generations to come.

In 2013, FCAN joined together with Fair Share, a national organization that stands for an America where everyone gets their fair share, does their fair share, and pays their fair share; and where everyone plays by the same rules.
